Be sure you look at this one Al.

    Planeswalkers

    Planeswalker Abilities:

You can play one of these abilities only at the time you could play a sorcery, and only if none of that planeswalker's abilities have been played yet that turn.

And be sure you take a look at this one:

You can't play an ability with a negative loyalty cost unless the planeswalker has at least that many loyalty counters on it.

So I guess we were both wrong on two separate things.

It just gets confusing when you find it online with all these different people agreeing on one thing that say they are MTG Certified Judges :/

You had talked about how you could only use a planeswalker ability if it wouldnt reduce their loyalty counters to 0.

But there it talks about how you can use any - ability as long as the plansewalker has at least that many counters.

Very keen observation. One that took me down a peg in the zendikar prerelease. I only observe that rule because that is how they ruled at the prerelease.

Point of reference. Just because they run the shop doesn't make them correct.

I gotcha... I noticed a lot of things they said you could do in the prerelease couldnt fly. I initially got my misconception about planeswalkers simply because when ryan and I went to that alara draft they all had planeswalker decks and were playing that way.

Like I said... confusing when judges don't even know the correct rules.

This is why there is normally a set DCI judge per area that is paid to come and judge the games. A lot of stores lately though are taking it into their own hands, but as they are trying to run a business are not able to stay current on the rules.

Nobody's fault but the store owners....and the economy
