Every day I hate my job more and more on 9/26/2008, 12:12 pm

But let me clarify; I love the work I do. It is very satisfying and I have the chance to make a lot of people very happy. (I sell paint, btw. Not a streetwalker.) I get to integrate science with art and I really dig finding solutions to all the bizarre problems people bring me.
But, of course, the management sucks. The company I work for is going into death spasms as we speak, and as they say "Shit rolls downhill." To me. Lowly associate.
Problems started before I even got my foot in the door; the scheduler repeatedly scheduled me to work DURING MY CLASSES, continuing after I had told her at least three times and brought in my class schedule.
My department manager practices intimidation; she is constantly threatening to write people up for imagined crimes (she has a lovely habit of abandoning the desk to go talk to the cashiers and play on her cellphone in the back, and delegates her managerial duties onto the new people.) She sows dissent within the department. She is a passive aggressive liar.
The assistant store managers are even worse, but that's to be expected I suppose.
My biggest problem, and the one that is going to push me into a new job, fired up last week.
As some of you might know, I've been having some pretty serious problems with my hand. I have an appointment with my orthopedist on Monday to find out it if there is any permanent nerve damage. I talked with my assistant manager about this problem on Friday, because it was hindering me from doing my job. We briefly discussed the implications of filing a worker's comp claim but I decided not to because I couldn't definitively say the injury was due to work (and because between his rude dismissive attitude and the pain I was in, I was in tears and ended up leaving.)
I came back to work yesterday to find that my hours had been cut this week, and that someone had removed documents from my locker (a copy of a glowing evaluation form from the assistant manager and my dept head, a copy of my latest availability sheet, and an award I had received for outstanding customer service.)
So I am really concerned. I am afraid they are going to try to fire me, and I would quit first but I can't afford to right now because I don't have another job lined up.
I hate this company and I hope it gets bought out by Ikea.
